Privacy Policy for Send Web to Kindle

Last Updated: July 8, 2026

Welcome to Send Web to Kindle. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data with the highest level of security. This Privacy Policy thoroughly discloses how our Chrome Extension accesses, uses, stores, or shares Google user data in compliance with the Google API Services User Data Policy.

1. Data Accessed

Our extension operates as a client-side tool and accesses the following specific types of Google user data:

  • User Identity (identity.email scope): Used to identify your Google account locally for authentication purposes.
  • Gmail Send Access (https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.send scope): This restricted scope is used solely and exclusively to transmit the locally generated EPUB files directly to your designated Amazon Kindle email address (e.g., `@kindle.com`). This permission is only executed upon your explicit request when you click the "Send to Kindle" button.
  • Web Content (activeTab, scripting permissions): Used to extract text and articles locally from the active webpage you choose to convert.

2. Data Usage

The Google user data accessed is used solely for the core functionality of the extension:

  • EPUB Generation: Web article text is processed entirely locally on your device to create a clean EPUB file.
  • Kindle Delivery: The gmail.send scope is strictly limited to programmatically creating an outbound email, attaching the locally extracted EPUB article, and routing it directly to your personal Kindle library. The extension only populates the "To" field with the Kindle email address you provided in the settings. We strictly adhere to the Google Limited Use policy: this permission is never used to read your inbox, access email metadata, modify existing messages, or dispatch unauthorized marketing emails/spam to third parties.
  • We DO NOT read your emails, access email metadata, or modify any content within your Gmail mailbox.

3. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or trade your Google user data with any third parties. All operations are strictly handled between your local browser extension and the official Google APIs. No user data or Google account information is ever transmitted to or stored on any external backend servers owned by us.

4. Data Storage & Protection

Your data security is our top priority:

  • No Server-Side Storage: We do not operate external database servers to store your personal info or Google tokens.
  • Local Storage Only: Your configuration preferences (such as your target Kindle email address) are stored securely on your local device via Chrome's chrome.storage API.
  • Secure Authentication: OAuth2 access tokens are securely requested, managed, and isolated locally by Chrome's native chrome.identity API.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Because we do not store any Google user data on any external servers, we maintain zero retention of your personal data.

  • User Control: You can wipe all locally stored configuration data at any time by simply uninstalling the Chrome extension.
  • Revoking Access: You can completely revoke the extension's access to your Google Account at any moment through your Google Account Security Settings page.

6. Google API Services User Data Policy Compliance

Send Web to Kindle's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
